Red-i-Vid: Making Videos Interactive for On-Demand Learning
The Challenge:
Live webinars often lose their value when the audience size no longer justifies a live host. Red Roof Inn needed a solution to repurpose webinar recordings while maintaining engagement and assessing understanding. The goal was to allow the content to live on as an interactive resource without requiring additional staff involvement.
The Idea:
To make recorded webinars more engaging and impactful, I envisioned a tool that could embed interactive questions directly into videos. This would replicate the engagement of live sessions and enable tracking learner progress and understanding via an LMS.
The Solution:
I developed Red-i-Vid, a two-part application:
1. Desktop App: Built with Electron.js using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, this app allows users to easily add interactive questions to any video.
2. SCORM-Compatible Video Player and Quiz Engine: A web-based player that delivers the video with embedded questions, wrapped in a SCORM package for LMS compatibility.
Key Features:
•  Insert interactive questions at any point in the video to check understanding.
•  Export SCORM packages for bookmarking and tracking learner progress on an LMS.
•   Repurpose recorded webinars, embedding frequently asked questions to ensure engagement and comprehension in on-demand settings.
Red-i-Vid extends the lifespan of webinars, enabling them to remain interactive and impactful, while freeing hosts to focus on other priorities.

A demonstration of the Red-i-vid Builder App being used to create a simple one question interactive video both from scratch and from an existing file.

This video is being played from an LMS using the output from the demonstration in the first video. A question appears at 0:41.
