Championing People: A Recipe for Success
The Challenge
J.Gumbo’s of Delaware County had recently been recognized as a SCORE American Small Business Champion, sponsored by Sam’s Club. As part of their celebration, they wanted a promotional video that highlighted their dedication to employing people with disabilities, showcased their award-winning values, and promoted their delicious Cajun food.
The Idea
To tell their story authentically, we focused on two employees with Down syndrome, showcasing their integral roles at the restaurant and their interactions with the owner during a supply run to Sam’s Club. By capturing their contributions and the team’s camaraderie, the video conveyed the heart of the restaurant’s mission: championing people.
The Solution
The video, titled Championing People: A Recipe for Success, combined engaging visuals and a heartfelt narrative. It featured:
•   Examples of employees with disabilities working and interacting in the restaurant.
•   The employees on a supply run with the owner, emphasizing their connection to Sam’s Club and their award.
•   A poignant voiceover by the owner, written to connect their mission with their operations.
•   A memorable ending with the owner and one of the employees addressing the audience and reminding viewers of their fantastic Cajun cuisine.
My Role
I handled every aspect of the production, including scripting, shooting, and editing. The result was a heartfelt and visually engaging video that celebrated J.Gumbo’s values and connected their mission with their award-winning work.
This project allowed me to blend my passion for storytelling with a cause close to my heart, creating a promotional piece that resonated with the community and beyond.
