Down Syndrome Awareness Icon: A New Look for Advocacy in Ohio
The Challenge:
DownSyndromeOhio.org and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio (DSACO) aimed to create a unifying symbol that represented Down Syndrome awareness across the state. This new icon was intended to appear on license plates, helping to raise funds for local Down Syndrome associations and providing a centralized resource for individuals and families through DownSyndromeOhio.org. To introduce this initiative, the committee sought an engaging, informative marketing piece that would explain the thought and symbolism behind the icon while inspiring statewide support.
The Idea:
To amplify the launch, I envisioned a motion graphics video that would serve as both an informational tool and a rallying call. The video would highlight the care and meaning infused into the design of the new icon, explaining how it embodies the Down Syndrome community while showcasing its potential as a statewide symbol for awareness and unity.
The Solution:
I developed a compelling motion graphics piece titled “The New Look for Down Syndrome Awareness.” Key elements included:
Concept and Storytelling: I collaborated closely with committee members to craft a narrative that highlighted the symbol’s design process, symbolism, and purpose.
Visual Design and Animation: Using Adobe After Effects, I created smooth transitions, striking visuals, and clean typography to maintain focus on the message while keeping the piece visually engaging.
Message Delivery: The final video conveyed the icon’s deeper meaning and its role in driving awareness while encouraging viewers to embrace the new symbol and support the license plate initiative.
This piece was a pivotal part of the campaign’s success, serving as an accessible and impactful way to introduce Ohioans to the new symbol and its mission to unite and empower the Down Syndrome community.
